Police: Couple involved in Lodi death found drunk in car on Glen Rock lawn

CLIFFVIEW PILOT SCOOP: A couple involved in a motor vehicle death in Lodi three months ago were both found in a car — with her passed out behind the wheel — on a Glen Rock homeowner’s lawn early this morning, police said. She’s the former girlfriend of a slain Paterson police officer; he was driving in the Lodi incident.

Christina Imperato, 25, of Washington Township and Julius Lacewell, 32, of Alpine both threw up and defecated in a Glen Rock patrol car before he was hospitalized and she was charged with DWI just after midnight, according to a police report.

Authorities have seen the couple before.

On 9/11 this year, a mob of teenagers beat and robbed a 31-year-old Guatemalen immigrant in Passaic, leaving him in the middle of an intersection. He was then run over and killed.

Lacewell was driving and Imperato was his passenger, police said. Both were charged with causing a death while driving and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. They have been free on bail since.

Glen Rock police rushed to 853 South Maple Avenue a few minutes after midnight this morning.

Larewell was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center “out of fear for his health,” a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “That how bad a shape he was in.”

Imperato, meanwhile, was charged with DWI for refusing to take a breath test, police records show. Her father picked her up from headquarters.

Imperato’s high school sweetheart, Paterson Police officer Tyron Franklin, was shot and killed in Paterson in a holdup at a fast-food restaurant in January 2007.

The couple was living with their young son in Franklin’s parents house in Westwood at the time.
