Officers Daniel Pent and Eudy Ramos were in plain clothes, joined by Officers Frank Toledo, Alexsis Torres and Jonathan Bustios, when they closed in on 22-year-old Demetrey Roundtree at the Riverside Towers off 5th Avenue just before 11 p.m. Monday, Police Director Jerry Speziale told Daily Voice.
Roundtree took off, but they found him hiding in front of an apartment on Alois Place -- and 50 envelopes of heroin of Mexican-produced heroin bundled into a brick discarded nearby, Speziale said.
A search of the apartment turned up a shopping bag that contained more bricks with a matching "Made in Mexico” stamp as the first one, he said.
The bag also held 800 envelopes of heroin, two bags filled with about three-quarters of an ounce of uncut cocaine and a bag with 1.7 ounce of uncut heroin, along with a grinder, scale, ink pads, a box of empty envelopes and 11 different stamps with various names, the director said.
Roundtree was charged with various drug possession, manufacturing and distribution offenses.
“This was an outstanding job that hit the core of the distribution of illegal drugs in the housing complex,” Speziale said.
