Juan Sosa was charged with nine counts of attempted murder, in addition to a variety of weapons charges – including having a defaced assault weapon, authorities said.
Police responding to the 12:30 a.m. shooting at 465 Park Avenue identified Sosa and later took him into custody without incident, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Deputy Paterson Police Chief Heriberto Rodriguez said in a joint announcement.
Sosa was being held without bail in the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing on Saturday.
The 39-year-old victim -- the 43rd to be struck by gunfire in the city this year -- was at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, city Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
