PATERSON, N.J. – A Paterson Eastside High School security guard struck a student, said authorities who arrested him.

Gary Powell, 62, of Paterson was charged Wednesday with assault, child abuse and neglect for hitting the boy on March 31, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

A pre-indictment conference in Superior Court in Paterson was scheduled for June 2, she said.
