Detectives John Tolerico, Rashedul Chowdhury and Atli Selawere spotted Ralph Casale, 37, driving a black Kia carelessly with a broken taillight, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

The detectives followed Casale and watched as he turned onto Fair Street and stopped midblock, Berdnik said.

Another man came out of an apartment complex holding a glass jar that he gave to Casale, who put it in his trunk, the sheriff said.

The detectives stopped him moments later on Rosa Parks Boulevard and found six ounces of marijuana, worth $1,500 on the street, in the jar, he said.

The detectives also searched the apartment complex for the man who handed over the pot jar but didn't find him, Berdnik said.

Casale was charged with drug offenses and released him on a court summons. They also seized $800 in cash, the sheriff said.
