Detectives approached the 328 around 7 p.m. Tuesday at North 12th Street and Brown Avenue, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said early Wednesday.

The driver, 25-year-old Eric Sanchez of Paterson, was talking on the phone, looking in different directions, "as if he was waiting someone's arrival," the sheriff said. With him was Pelal Deeb, 22, of Totowa.

Several minutes later, Adrian Rodriguez, 22, of Paterson approach the car, removed a cardboard box and handed the occupants money, Berdnik said.

Detectives seized the heroin and $1,480 in cash, arresting the trio, he said.

Rodriguez and Sanchez were being held on $100,000 bail each and Deeb on $50,000 bail in the Passaic County Jail on a variety of drug possession and distribution charges, the sheriff said.
