NJ State Police say Paterson Latin King imprisoned girlfriend for 2 years

NJ State Police were in the middle of a raid on a Paterson house, seizing more than $100,000 worth of prescription drugs, when they found a woman imprisoned in a padlocked bedroom.

She may have been there for long stretches over the course of two years, they said.

The NJSP Street Gang Unit executed a search warrant Thursday afternoon at 17-37 Alois Place.

While collecting the drugs, a large amount of cash, and purported Latin King Michael Mendez, they made the frightening discovery.

Mendez, 42, was grabbed outside the house. Once inside, State Police said, they found:

4,200 prescription pills;
190 grams of marijuana valued at $1,900
$22,567 in cash.

Inside the locked bedroom they found a woman identified as Mendez’s 44-year-old girlfriend.

She was immediately taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson for a medical evaluation.

The case will be prosecuted by the by Division of Criminal Justice under the Office of the Attorney General.

Michael Mendez is charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, criminal restraint and a host of drug counts.
