Sauro D. Estevez Figueredo, 49, was the last of five defendants to plead guilty in federal court in the case.
Local law enforcement discovered the network after finding the tractor-trailer parked in Clifton on Feb. 6, 2016, Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick said.
That afternoon, Edwin Alamo Jr., 22, and Emmanuel Gonzalez, 33, both of the Bronx, drove to the tractor trailer and left with nearly 50 pounds of heroin in a suitcase given to them by Alberto Mora, 53, of Morriston, FL, Fitzpatrick said.
Porfirio Peralta-Nunez, 38, of Jersey City, later arrived with two empty bags and left the Clifton location shortly afterwards with the bags filled with fentanyl, morphine and heroin, he said.
There were two more bags in the rig – containing 22 pounds each of fentanyl and cocaine – that, Fitzpatrick said, "would have been provided to other conspirators if not for law enforcement’s intervention."
U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan scheduled Figueredo’s sentencing for Feb. 15 in federal court in Trenton.
Fitzpatrick credited special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the investigation that led to the pleas, secured by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meredith Williams and Elaine Lou of his Criminal Division in Newark.
