Officers responding to the shooting around 11:50 p.m. Sunday didn't find the victim in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Harrison Street, Police Director Jerry Speziale.

As often happens in Paterson, he was driven to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, the director said.

An initial investigation indicates that he was accosted by a group -- one of whom pulled out a gun and fired once, striking the 33-year-old victim in the abdomen, he said.

Speziale asked that anyone who might have seen something, or has information that could help detectives investigating the assault, call Detective Michael Quinones or Passaic County Prosecutor’s Detective Ricardo Ferreira of the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
