Police Chief Frank Del Vecchio told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the “Clean Community and Safe Streets” details “were conducted without increasing officer overtime.”

“It’s been a concerted effort by all officers involved to improve our community,” the chief said. “We hope to continue this program as we move forward.”

It isn’t just undercover busts, either.

“Since implementing this initiative the police department has increased traffic operations to raise traffic safety awareness and to create a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians,” Del Vecchio said.

Arrested this weekend:

Jose A Velez, 41, deliveryman: Open alcohol container, disorderly, marijuana possession (released to Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on outstanding warrant for missing court date);

Timothy J McQuaid, 29, unemployed: Driving in the suspended list, with heroin and a hypodermic needle in the car (Bergen County Jail: $7,500 bail);

Luis E. Villagrad, 38, unemployed: Urinating in public, disorderly, improper behavior (released on summons);

Alfredo Martinez, 29, unemployed: Drinking in public (Released on summons)

All Fairview residents, they are scheduled for Municipal Court appearances Wednesday.
