Investigators hunt hit-and-run van involved in gang death

UPDATE: Someone may have been dancing with someone else’s girlfriend at a Route 4 nightspot when a fight erupted between two gangs, leaving 37-year-old Kevin Brewington of Paterson dead. Investigators are seeking a gold or champagne-colored minivan that Brewington fell from. They wouldn’t identify the driver, although CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM has learned that he is well-known figure in the hip-hop community.

“Several individuals were in the VIP area, one individual was dancing with a girl, and the altercation began” at the Mantra Restaurant in Paramus, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. The dance partner was leaving with his friends from Newark around 2:30 when a Paterson-based crew with the girl followed them out, the prosecutor said.

The converted minivan was one of three vehicles pulling out of the lot at the Mall at IV when Brewington and several others jumped on it, breaking the window. He apparently was trying to open a side door and got snagged on the vehicle, then smashed he head onto a curb as he fell. The minivan then sped off.
