Officers Skylar Cauceglia and David Hoppe were on security and safety patrols in the commercial district along Route 46 late Monday when they saw Matthew Muccia of Glen Ridge standing in a traffic lane on the service road in front of the Ramada Inn, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Muccia, 27, who has an extensive criminal record, was warned and released, Martin said.

After he left, however, police discovered that Muccia had outstanding traffic warrants out of Oakland and East Orange, as well as a criminal warrant out of Pompton Lakes, the captain said.

Officers Rob Franciose and Rob Fernandez of the Warrant Squad joined the search for Muccia, who was spotted getting out of a car at the hotel.

With him was Abigail K Weber, 32, of Pompton Lakes -- who, Martin said, showed signs of drug abuse, including several fresh track marks.

While interviewing her, police discovered five bags of heroin stamped "SELFIE" in red ink, he said.

They then arrested both Weber and Muccia.

Weber required medical attention at headquarters, so the Wayne First AId Squad took her to nearby St. Joseph's Hospital, the captain said.

A judge ordered her held in the Passaic County Jail on drug possession charges pending a detention hearing once she received medical clearance.

Muccia was turned over to Pompton Lakes police.
