The bartender was alone when five men wearing hoodies, masks and scarves entered Benders on Lafayette Avenue around 7:20 p.m. Friday, Capt. Jeffrey Vanderhook said.

Two had handguns and another a large knife, he said.

After demanding cash, the robbers took $200 from the register, the captain said. They also took $3 and a cellphone and charger from the bartender before fleeing on foot, Vanderhook said.

The robbers were described as Hispanic and between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 inches tall.

Police are looking for anyone who was in the area of Lafayette and Rea avenues between 7:15 and 7:25 p.m. Christmas night.

Anyone with information that can help the investigation is asked to contact Hawthorne police: (973) 427-1800.
