Daniele, who was promoted Thursday night, began as an auxiliary police officer for the department and worked as a recycling officer and dispatcher before becoming a patrolman.

He became sergeant and then lieutenant before the promotion to deputy chief.

Department members credit his rise to "hard work and devotion to duty," as well as to "merit, dedication and consistency."
