Nearly a dozen people were displaced by the blaze, which began in a vacant home under renovation in the 400 block of Morrissee Avenue.

The fire quickly spread to houses on either side, while cracking the front windows and melting the vinyl siding of two homes across the street, as firefighters arrived within minutes of the 9:45 p.m. call.

One of the homes was burned to the ground, while another collapsed.

Haledon firefighters had assistance from more than six dozen of their colleagues from Paterson, Hawthorne, Woodland Park, Wayne, Little Falls and Totowa.

A temporary shelter was established at Borough Hall to care for the displaced.
