Police responded to a report of two shoplifters being detained by Walmart security for lifting $75 worth of good from the Route 46 store last night, Saddle Brook Chief Robert Kugler said.

Both were brought to headquarters for shoplifting.

There, police found 42-year-old Shonda Sullivan carrying the semi-automatic Ruger — with a defaced serial number, Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Sullivan was being held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts of illegal weapons possession and shoplifting. She also owes $26,535 in arrears and was wanted on a warrant out of Paterson.

The gun, meanwhile, was forwarded to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification for ballistics testing and possible tracing.

Sullivan’s companion, 48-year-old Derek Pitts, also of Paterson, was released without bail pending a court hearing on a shoplifting charge.

“This is an clear example of not only how common illegal weapons can be found in the everyday environment, but more importantly how dangerous an incident can be for our law enforcement officers as well as the general public when coming into contact with these criminals,” Deputy Police Chief Robert White said.
