“He was talking more about how he was going to kill himself than about hurting other people,” Fair Lawn Police Lt. Derek Bastinck told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Elmwood Park and city police picked him up in Paterson tonight after authorities pinged his phone following a troubling 6 p.m. call to Fair Lawn police that prompted an area-wide alert.

He was then taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center.

No charges were planned.

“He was drunk and suicidal. He didn’t threaten to harm anyone else,” Bastinck said. “There’s no crime in that.”
