Officer Edward Egan tried to stop Clarence Goodman on Morlot Avenue at Essex Place around 12:45 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

When Goodman took off on Dewey Place, Egan summoned backup, Metzler said.

Both bikes were stolen from an Essex Place garage, he said.

Officer Kevin Wood spotted and grabbed Goodman, who was charged with burglary, theft and obstruction. He was being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
