Fair Lawn Detective Paul Donohue, responding to a string of car burglaries in the parking lot of Lucille Roberts on Broadway, snuck up on 40-year-old Hiram Maldonado just before 6 o’clock tonight as he moved through the lot with a flashlight, trying door handles, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Backups roared up and Maldonado was quickly taken into custody.

Besides the flashlight, Maldonado was carrying flashlight a screwdriver and gloves, the sergeant said.

A judge tonight ordered Maldonado — who also had arrest warrants out of Paterson and Elizabeth, and by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department for violating probation — held on $10,000 in the Bergen County Jail on charges of attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.
