Estranged husband kills woman, new boyfriend in Woodland Park, then turns gun on self

EXCLUSIVE: A love triangle left three people dead in Woodland Park this morning — a woman and her new boyfriend, along with her ex, who police said turned the gun on himself after shooting the couple, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said today, confirming an exclusive CLIFFVIEW PILOT report.

The estranged husband, identified as 48-year-old Stephen Rhyne of Bergenfield, squeezed off more than a half-dozen shots at the Westmount Village garden apartment complex where he lived just after 6 a.m., a law enforcement source said.

The body of Maria Rhyne, 48, was found at the front door of an apartment and the new paramour, 44-year-old Gerry Thomas,  in his SUV, which he’d rammed into other vehicles in the parking lot in an attempt to flee the shooter.

Rhyne, formerly of 225th Street in the Bronx and recently of Beaucler Place in Bergenfield, fled to a wooded area nearby before fatally shooting himself, as CLIFFVIEW PILOT reported exclusively earlier today.

Maria Rhyne had obtained a court order of protection from her violent estranged husband, from whom she’d been separated about a year, Valdes said.
