DWI Driver Charged In Passenger's Death In Woodland Park Crash

WOODLAND PARK, N.J. – A 20-year-old passenger was killed and the Rockland County driver charged with causing his death in a Woodland Park crash, authorities said Friday.

Francisco Alberto Almonte, 29, of Tompkins Cove in Stony Point, was under the influence when he crashed his 2004 Chevy Impala on Rifle Camp Road just after 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Woodland Park Police Chief Anthony J. Galietti said in a joint statement.

The crash killed his passenger, whose name was being withheld pending family notification, they said.

Almonte, meanwhile, was charged with death by auto and DWI and ordered held pending a Friday afternoon court appearance in Paterson.
