Officer Jessenia Levy was patrolling the area of Piaget Avenue and Lexington Avenue when she saw Julian Romero blow a red light around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.

Levy tried pulling him over, but Romero hit the gas, Bracken said.

The officer followed the 2000 Toyota Corolla onto eastbound Route 46 for nearly seven miles into Little Ferry, with Romero “sporadically slamming on his brakes in an effort to initiate contact with the patrol vehicle,” the lieutenant said.

He then swerved into the patrol vehicle as they were making a turn, ending the pursuit with a crash, Bracken said.

Romero, of Clifton, was charged with eluding, resisting arrest and both marijuana and paraphernalia possession, the lieutenant said. He also received several traffic summonses.

The girl, who at first identified herself as an adult, was released without any complaints filed against her, Bracken said.

No one was injured, the lieutenant said.

The police cruiser sustained minor damage, he said.
