Yesterday, a “Wanted” poster went out with her face all over it, boosting the bureau’s swelling number of chick pics.
Nationwide, 6.2 percent of all bank robbers are women — up 25 percent in just a few years (Talk about equal opportunity). Men ordinarily do it for the rush, or to get money to feed a habit, those who study bank holdups say.
But it’s different for girls.
Studies show they do it to pay bills or get some extra cash for diapers and other necessities.
Some may invoke the name of Bonnie Parker, history’s most notorious bank robber. She had a partner, though: Clyde Barrow. Both toted machine guns, among other little friends, before deputies turned them to Swiss cheese in a shootout.
Given the odds that the FBI will catch them (75 percent), today’s female robbers are showing the same stones as men. The local bandit, who still hasn’t gotten a nickname, simply presents her note and waits — probably because of banks’ well-publicized practice of handing over the cash and not risking injury to anyone around.
On Monday, authorities said, the Clifton teller gave her $750. It was all she said she had in her drawer. Satisfied with what she got, the robber took the money and ran.
