Family members a law enforcement official’s statement to CLIFFVIEW PILOT that the death of Mildred Soto doesn’t appear suspicious.
Soto, who suffered from paranoia, didn’t have her medication with her, they said.
Dental records were used to identify Soto, who family members said was carrying her driver’s license in her back pocket.
Authorities didn’t initially say how long they believe her body was in the water.
The family members said they last saw Soto in Belleville on Oct. 2. She had contacts and connections in Bergen and Hudson counties, as well as in New York City, they confirmed.
The Bergen County Police Department Scuba Team removed the body after a truck driver for the Soundview Paper company who spotted it floating along the shore near the old Marcal Paper plant site called 911.
Among those responding with Elmwood Park police were the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Belleville police.
Firefighters also responded to handle decontamination.
An official cause of death hadn’t yet been announced this afternoon.
