Bizwoman From NYC Charged With Swiping Clothing From Willowbrook

WAYNE, N.J. -- She may live on Manhattan's Upper East Side, but Wayne police said a 55-year-old manager for a midtown financial services firm wandered around Lord & Taylor, collected $1,650 worth of clothing and walked out with it before she was stopped by security.

Contacted by phone on Tuesday, Irene Sagalova told Daily Voice: "I'm sorry, but I don't think I can comment on any of this. I apologize."

Told it seemed odd that someone with her resume would be charged with shoplifting, Sagalova responded: "I know....But I cannot say anything."

Officers summoned to the Willowbrook Mall store at 9 p.m. Monday took Sagalova into custody, Police Capt. Laurence Martin said earlier. She was charged with shoplifting and released on a court summons, he said.

Her Facebook and Linked In pages say Sagalova is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, who attended high school in Leningrad and completed a Bachelor-Master's program in clinical psychology -- specializing in business psychology -- at City University of New York in 1985.

The Yorkville resident has since worked at digital communications companies the U.S. and abroad, as well as for a hedge fund company in Switzerland and as a private financial consultant for more than nine years before taking a job last April with a NYC-based lending and business services firm, according to her LinkedIn page.
