The #1163 train had left Hoboken at 4:23 p.m. -- due to arrive in Suffern at 5:19 p.m. -- and was passing through the city when it struck the man about seven train-car lengths west of the Paterson station just after 5 p.m., NJ Transit's Jennifer Nelson told Daily Voice.

There 350 passenger and three crew members aboard, she said.

Because the force of impact pushed him off the elevated track area, service was disrupted only briefly.
