John Delacruz, 22, was in custody, charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses, authorities said Monday.
Two others charged with the same offenses were identified as Wilfredo Garcia, 20, and Modino Garcia, 42, both of Paterson.
Delacruz was driving when the Garcias got out of a black sedan on Hospital Plaza shortly after 5:30 p.m. May 27, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora said in a joint announcement.
They approached Brian Olivio and another man, both 20, and began beating them, Valdes and Baycora said.
The Garcias shot both men before fleeing in the car, they said.
Olivio was brought into the hospital and was pronounced dead. The other victim walked in under his own steam, was treated and then was released, authorities said.
A judge ordered Delacruz detained after he was arrested on May 31, Valdes and Baycora said.
Garcia and Modino Garcia were “still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous,” they said.
Anyone who sees them or knows where to find them is asked to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or tips@passaiccountynj.org or the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at (973) 321-1120.
