As CLIFFVIEW PILOT exclusively reported this morning, the boy was detained around 9:30 a.m. in connection with Wednesday afternoon’s 3:30 p.m. shooting in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Delinquency complaints were signed charging the teen with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by minors, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of weapons, the city said in a news release.

“The Police Department worked aggressively and relentlessly to develop leads in this case and arrest the individual responsible,” Mayor Steve Fulop said in the release. “Anyone who commits this type of senseless crime will be subject to the full force of our police department and will be arrested and prosecuted.”

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant late last night after detectives and officers from the CeaseFire and Street Crimes units identified the alleged shooter, but they said they didn’t find him at his house. His parents brought him in this morning, they said.

Police said the teen fired at least four shots during a fight.

After being struck, the boy made it to the nearby Lafayette Gardens housing complex, entered the gate on Union Street and collapsed, witnesses told police.

The victim was in “excellent” condition but kept an extra night at Jersey City Medical Center as a precaution, authorities said.
