SHOUT OUTS: Three native sons — Joseph Scrafani, Peter Romero and Timothy Parisi — were sworn as new Saddle Brook police officers this week and will attend the 115th Police Class of the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute from July 24-Dec. 18.

The hires bring the department to 31 officers.

“I know each of these individuals, as well as their families, and know them to be dedicated to becoming police officers and serving the town they grew up,” Mayor Robert White said.

“This is a great day for each of them, their families and our police department,” Chief Robert Kugler said Monday night. “I look forward to their sincere commitment and desire to serve the community and general public.”

All three men attended Saddle Brook High School and Bergen Community College.

Joseph Scrafani, 29, served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 2011 as a sergeant. He served in Iraq from 2009-2010 and received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, NCO Professional Development Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge. He most recently was a corrections officer with the NJ Department of Corrections assigned to Trenton State Prison and attended basic training at the State Police Sea Girt facility last year.

Peter Romero, 27, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Paterson University. He recently worked as a sales representative for Paycheck Inc. and was a GNC store manager and substitute teacher in the Saddle Brook school district.

Timothy Parisi, 30, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health from William Paterson University. He recently was a current physical education teacher at Helen I. Smith Public Elementary School and SBHS football and track coach.
