Lille Phullo Rampersad, 82, Of Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. -- Lille Phullo Rampersad, 82, wife of the late Ramnarase Rampersad and principal of Durham Village Hindu School, in Charlieville, died April 27, 2016 in Oradell.

She was born in 1933 in Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago, one of 12 children.

She spent most of her life bringing up her six children and was devoted to family life.

She was an excellent seamstress, learning to sew at an early age, which became her passion. She always was proud to have sewn her own wedding dress, which was saved until this day. She could just look at the various fashions and delighted in cutting out free form from memory. She sewed all her daughters’ clothes through their teen years, as well as for friends, family and neighbors.

She also was a wonderful cook and we recall Dan’s friends from Mt. St. Benedict loving when he was dropped off on weekends as they knew Mom had packed food for all of them. Holiday baking was always a real treat and she took great joy in sharing with the neighbors and children.

Rampersad always said she was not "book smart," leaving school at 16, but had a lot of "street smarts." She practically ran her father’s business from an early age.

She is survived by her children, Shakuntala (Shaks) Lehmann, Geeta Fletcher (Martin), of the United Kingdom, Dan Rampersad (Shama), Sue (Pops) Rampersad, Dani (Cherrie) Wehrmann (Robert) of Connecticut and Radhika (Seeta) Zelhof (Bernie) of Florida; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and seven siblings.
