Katherine 'Kay' Postma Veenstra, 91, Of North Haledon

NORTH HALEDON, N.J. -- Katherine “Kay” Postma Veenstra, 91, a resident of North Haledon, died March 12, 2016. 

She was born March 10, 1925, to the late Nicholas and Anna (Lont) Postma in Fair Lawn. 

She was predeceased in 2003 by her loving husband of 56 years, James Veenstra. She also was predeceased by her sisters Martha Zoeteway, Jeanette Schrueder and Jessie Pasterkamp.

She graduated from Eastern Academy and went on to marry her high school sweetheart on May 29, 1947. She worked alongside her husband as the bookkeeper for Glen Rock Stairs. 

Veenstra had an unwavering faith in God, was immersed in the Christian community and was a member of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting, crocheting and visiting with family and friends. 

She is survived by her children, James and Lois of Lombard, Ill., Nicholas and Lynn of North Haledon, Kathy and Allan Jeltema of Hamburg, Nancy and Michael McDonald of Sussex, Marjorie and the late Charles Kuperus of Sussex, and Bette and Paul Brinkerhoff of Mason, Ohio; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was also survived by her brother William Postma of Glen Rock, and many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive their friends from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home; 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Community Christian Reformed Church; 530 Sicomac Ave, Wyckoff.
