Howard Forstrom, 54, Of North Haledon

NORTH HALEDON, N.J. -- Howard Forstrom, 54, of North Haledon, died Sept. 10. He was 54. 

Forstrom was born in Ridgewood in 1961 and he lived in Fair Lawn before moving to North Haledon in 1999. 

He was chief engineer with the Harris Corp. He was a member of Hawthorne Gospel Church, where he was chairman of its Mission Committee and also was a former president of the New Jersey Homeschooler Association. He had a passion for his Lord and in his final months he ministered to those with cancer at Hackensack University Medical Center. He loved to travel, camp, cycle and hike.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Forstrom; children, Katelyn Cahilly and her husband Peter and Gregory Forstrom; parents, Walter and Helen Forstrom; and siblings, Wally Forstrom and his wife Carol and Janice Frost and her husband Alex. 

The family will receive family and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 State Route 208, Hawthorne. Interment will be in Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawthorne Gospel Church Mission Fund, 2000 State Route 208, Hawthorne.
