What started out as a small initiative in the dental office, turned into a community-wide event.

“It was nice to see the community come together, and ask, ‘What could I do to help?’” said Bruna Defeo-Poecker, who organized the first annual “Premier Dental Care Rockin’ The Pink Breast Cancer Walk.”

The Oct. 2 event at the Totowa Police Athletic League drew about 100 people, with many local businesses donating to the cause.

In all, the event raised about $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization, Defeo-Poecker said.
