WAYNE, N.J. — It started at home in Wayne for Betsy Cirillo. Her daughters were always sick, and doctors couldn't tell her why.

Once she completely disinfected and decontaminated her house, the ailments disappeared, and Cirillo finally had an answer: Mold.

After taking a few classes, she founded Pathogend of New Jersey with business partner Toni Gallira, who has a decade of experience in the field.

The pair maintain that Pathogend isn't your average cleaning company.

"Most people get us confused with a cleaning service but we are a biodecontamination/disinfection company," Cirillo said.

"Cleaning services concentrate on appearance, we concentrate on eliminating disease-causing pathogens."

Every nook. Every crevice. Every corner.

Cirillo and Gallira disinfect the entire room.

"Manual cleaning can't accomplish what we do," Cirillo explained. "A cleaning service has a very different mission, we compliment and enhance what they do.

"We are in the infection control industry."

Pathogend of New Jersey works with businesses, property managers and home owners, offering a wide range of whole space disinfection services.

Its service guarantees the highest kill rate of pathogens possible (6-log), exceeding traditional cleaning, sanitization and disinfection processes.

"Drug-resistant pathogens are on the rise and pathogens are becoming increasingly virulent," the pair said. "The need to address these changes in our environment is an ever-growing problem."

Pathogend of New Jersey makes hospital-grade decontamination safe, affordable and convenient, offering routine bio-decontamination services as well as 24/7 emergency outbreak response.

Community awareness is important to Cirillo and Gallira, and they are determined to educate as many people as possible, they said.

"High-level disinfection is now accessible to anyone," said Cirillo, "not just healthcare facilities.

"We have the technology and the power to make a difference, and slowly our society is recognizing the need for change."
