Officers responding to a break-in at what was then the Happy Diner on Broad Avenue in 2018 found a damaged and emptied cash register outside the Honey Pig Bossam next door, Detective Sgt. A three-judge panel found that detectives lied to Anthony Sims Jr., 32, of Long Branch about why they wanted to question him: for an assault rather than the actual charge of attempted murder. Jurors in Newark deliberated for less than a day before convicting Roberto Grillo, 40, on Wednesday of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N.
