Brick police found a seal trying to cross the busy highway on Monday, Feb. 27, Police were able to stop traffic and safely allow the seal to cross, they said.  The Marine Mammal Stranding Center, which responded with a volunteer and technician, said it's not the first time a seal has tried to cross Route 35 due to the close proximity of both the bay and ocean. Shortly before 1:15 p.m. on Friday, October 21, members of the Belmar Police Department responded to the Belmar Motor Lodge on Route 35 on a report of gunfire. Teen Struck, Killed In Route 35 Hit-Run A 15-year-old was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday on Route 35. The crash occurred near South Pine Avenue around 3:45 a.m., the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Sayreville Police Department said. The victim's name was not released. Authorities believe a Honda Accord was involved in the incident.
