Douglas Yorke Jr., Passionate Author From Jersey Shore, Dies After Easter Sunday Crash
A Monmouth County author died from his injuries after an SUV struck him while he rode his bike on Easter Sunday, authorities said.
Douglas Yorke Jr., 72, of Red Bank, was hit by a black 2017 Honda HR-V at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 31, a Shrewsbury police spokesperson said. The crash happened on Samara Drive, just south of Obre Place.
Yorke was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune to be treated for his injuries. He died at the hospital on Thursday, Apr. 11, according to his obituary.

Ezra was born at 11:48 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, while his little brother Ezekial was born at 12:28 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at Virtua Voorhees Hospital in Camden.

Twenty cats — some with eye ulcers and respiratory problems — were rescued from a bug-infested apartment in Monmouth County, authorities said.
Monmouth County SPCA Humane Law Enforcement received an anonymous tip on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The apartment in Neptune had two adults, and two children, ages 6 and 3 also living there.
Many of the cats were found to have had upper respiratory infections, eye ulcers, some with dental disease, and were all very scared upon intake, but generally in fair health, the SPCA said on Facebook.

Ocean County resident and Lowe’s sales manager Nicholas Jarusiewicz died at his home in Jackson Township on Friday, May 19. He was 32.
Born in Neptune, Nicholas lived in Jackson Township for the majority of his life, moving briefly to Missouri before coming back in 2017, his obituary says.
Nicholas worked as a sales manager for Lowe’s in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Authorities ID Woman, 93, Killed In House Fire On Jersey Shore
Authorities have identified the woman killed in a house fire in Belmar on Wednesday, March 15, authorities said.
Frances Colie, 93, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
The fire broke out at about 4 p.m. on the 1700 block of Surf Avenue.
There has been no indication of any foul play being involved, the prosecutor's office said.
