Lauren Brecher, Longtime Teacher, Morris County Resident, Dies At 50
Lauren Brecher died on Friday, April 12 at Morristown Medical Center at the age of 50 after battling cancer, according to her obituary.
Born in Massachusetts, she grew up in Oakland in Bergen County before moving to Lake Hiawatha in 1996, her obituary reads. Brecher was a longtime teacher at Suburban Hills School in Chester and later taught OLPH Early Childhood Center in Oakland, her obituary reads.

Ava Rasmussen, who graduated Mahwah High School last year, died on Wednesday, March 13.
Ava, an active member of the school's cheerleading team and student government, died of cancer at the age of 18.

Exactly 20 years ago, Gail Corbo bought Country Cafe.
Well, back then it was called Franklin Lakes Deli. It was on Pulis Avenue in Franklin Lakes, and Corbo had been working there since her teens.
"It had a hometown feel," Corbo, of Mahwah, tells Daily Voice. "The nice part for me was that when I was working there in high school, I had people bringing their kids in, and then those people started bringing their kids in."
Corbo says, "It was a fun little spot in Franklin Lakes that a lot of kids grew up on."

A fugitive wanted for the attempted murder of his twin sister in Maryland was captured just short of the New York State line in New Jersey following a nearly hour-long pursuit, authorities confirmed on Monday, Dec. 4.
Reese E. Wetzel, 23, of Ellicott City, MD stabbed his sister multiple times during an argument, then stole her car and headed north, police in Edison, NJ, said.
Edison police said they received a Sirius XM alert involving the stolen white 2019 Subaru Outback at 8:13 p.m. Sunday.

For more than a decade, a laborer believed to living in the U.S. illegally sexually abused a child in Bergen County and at the Jersey Shore, authorities said Monday.
Federal authorities have placed a detainer on Jonan Pascasio-Erazo, a 46-year-old Salvadoran national living in Waldwick, who was jailed late last week.
Pascasio-Erazo sexually assaulted the victim in Waldwick, Mahwah and Belmar multiple times, beginning in 2012, up until his arrest, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

North Jersey Township Rallies Around Longtime Sunoco Employee Injured In Crash
Aaron Curry, who has worked at the Sunoco in Mahwah for 30 years, has had a rough time recently.
Curry developed an illness, which led to him getting in a car crash last month and he has been hospitalized ever since. With insurance not covering most of his expenses, a fundraiser has been created to assist him. As of Tuesday, July 18, almost $13,000 has been raised.
