Kayak Fisherman Found Dead In Jersey Shore River: State Police
A man fishing in a kayak was found dead in a Jersey Shore river, authorities said. Diego Ferreira, 37, of Long Branch, was found dead in the Navesink River in Middletown, a state police spokesperson said. Investigators said Ferreira was fishing in the river at night on Monday, Mar. 25. Ferreira was reported missing to state police at around 5:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 26. A Monmouth County man was accused of stalking a teen girl, leaving her flowers and "disturbing" notes, authorities said. Jersey Shore communities are getting $100 million in state grants to make crucial repairs to their boardwalk, officials said. The Boardwalk Preservation Fund money will go to 18 municipalities in Atlantic, Cape May, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Friday, Feb. 23. Newly-released forecast maps show parts of the region could see up to six inches of snow in the end-of-week storm. The National Weather Service has released rainfall totals from the weekend storm. Between Sunday morning, Dec. 10 and Monday morning, Dec. 11, the area that got the most amount of rain was Deerfield with 4.45 inches, then Flemington/Hopewell, with 4.29 inches. The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the arrival of mysterious tar balls on beaches from Sea Bright south to Asbury Park. Areas affected include Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook and the shoreline at Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, Deal, Allenhurst and Asbury Park. NJ Transit Train Strikes Car On Jersey Shore
A New Jersey Transit train struck a car on the Jersey Shore, authorities said. At 7:32 a.m., North Jersey Coast Line train 3224 crashed into the car at the Bethany Road crossing in Hazlet. The car's motorist was not hurt. No injuries were reported to the approximately 150 customers or the crew on board at the time. The train departed Long Branch at 7:10 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station New York at 8:41 a.m. Customers from train 3224 were being transferred to a following train. A serious crash closed Route 71 in Monmouth County. Kayla Clayton, a New Jersey native who relocated to the Washington DC area, died on Oct. 10 at 31 years old. A cause of death was not listed, however, her obituary on the Lawson Funeral Home website notes that Kayla "fought a good fight."
