Multiple Police Agencies Respond To Large Fight In Toms River Multiple police units were dispatched to the Days Hotel on Route 37 in Toms River for a large fight in a parking lot, authorities said. While responding on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 12:45 a.m., officers received further information regarding possible gunshots. Further investigation revealed evidence that shots were fired but no victims were struck.  One male suffered a seizure during the incident and was transported to Community Medical Center by Silverton First Aid.  The investigation is ongoing at this time. Sgt. William Merkler and his mother Doreen helped save the 5-year-old boy who had drifted towards the bay on a white swan float. The rescue occurred at Amherst Beach in Berkeley, police said, citing Patch. Merkler, and his mother were on their boat heading in from the bay near Amherst Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 8 when they noticed the boy in a float quite a distance out towards the bay, police said. Thomas Jann, of Beachwood, was sentenced on Friday, April 8 according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. A passerby found the body of Jaime Lee Kolbasowski on a bench in front of the Route 37 restaurant around noon Monday, Police Lt. Peter Sundack said. Police didn't know how long it had been there. Friends Raise Money For Jersey Shore Restaurant Owner's Wife After Serious Crash Friends of Elena Spinosa, who was seriously injured in a car accident in Berkeley last month, are raising money to help cover her medical and child care expenses.   She lives in Toms River with her husband, Corrado, and their three children, Alessandra, Constantine and Dino.  Alessandra and Constantine, were passengers in the car during the Feb. 29 crash, but sustained minor injuries and are doing well, according to this Facebook page, where more than $9,000 had been raised as of Tuesday. Berkeley PD: Driver Under Influence In Head-On Crash That Sent 3 To Hospital A 33-year-old from Berkeley was charged with DWI in connection with a head-on weekend crash that sent the driver of the other car and two children to the hospital. Robert Chelston also was charged with several drug offenses following the crash near Double Trouble Road, south of the Garden State Parkway entrance, Berkeley police announced on Facebook. Man Who Sold Fentanyl, Heroin That Killed Ocean County User Gets 7 Years In Prison A Lacey Township resident who sold a mix of heroin and fentanyl that killed a 25-year-old Berkeley man last spring must spend nearly six years in state prison before he’s eligible for parole. Charles Rice, 58, was sentenced Friday in Toms River to a plea-bargained seven years behind bars, 85 percent of which he must serve under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, for manslaughter, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D.
