It's been a busy four months for the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force.
Fourteen suspects have been arrested in 12 Newark committed from Saturday, June 1 through Monday, Sept. 30, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.
On Tuesday, June 4, Ty'Shon Young, a 27-year-old Newark resident was killed in a double shooting on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, authorities said. LA Fitness Stabbing: Boxcutter-Wielding Suspect From Union County In Custody, Cops Say
A 22-year-old Scotch Plains resident was arrested and charged on Monday, Sept. 9, with attempted murder after he stabbed another man with a boxcutter at an LA Fitness in Clark on Sunday, authorities said.
Officers responded to the LA Fitness at 1255 Raritan Rd. and located the victim, while the perpetrator, Antonio Lampon, fled from the scene before law enforcement arrived, Clark police said in a release. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

Gunman, 22, Arrested In Shooting Of Kearny Man In Paterson, Police Say
Police have arrested the 22-year-old gunman who they say is responsible for a June shooting in Paterson.
Rafael A. Cabrera Perea, of Paterson, is believed to have shot the 26-year-old man near Prospect and Ellison streets around 2:40 a.m. on June 17, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi said.
While on scene, officers were notified that the victim, a Kearny resident, had been taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. An investigation identified Cabrera Perea as the gunman, Valdes said.

Kearny Man, 44, Stabbed Passenger In His Vehicle In Clifton, Police Say
A 44-year-old Kearny man is facing charges for stabbing a 31-year-old Paterson victim in Clifton, police said.
Daniel Carbajal-Flores was operating a 2018 Honda when he stabbed the victim, a passenger in the vehicle, at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Russell Street just after 1 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, Clifton Police Lt. Robert Anderson said.
The victim was assisted to safety away from the vehicle by another passenger in Carbajal-Flores' car, and taken to St. Joseph's hospital in a separate vehicle, Anderson said.

Rutherford Resident Accused Of Brandishing Gun
A tax consultant from Rutherford was arrested for pointing a loaded gun during a dispute, authorities said.
Gerard Losardo, 35, remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Monday, March 13, records show.
He was seized at his home without incident on Friday after allegedly brandishing a legally registered .40-caliber handgun that night, Rutherford Deputy Police Chief Sean Farrell said.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Losardo is charged with aggravated assault, criminal restraint, simple assault, making terroristic threats and a weapons offense.
Raid At New Teaneck Apartment Complex Yields Arrests Of Couple, NYC Murder Suspect From PA
A Teaneck couple was arrested along with a Pennsylvania ex-con wanted in connection with a New York City homicide during a raid of the pair’s swanky apartment, authorities said.
Rickey D. Richardson, 56, and Taisha Tamika Bramwell, 39, were seized following the SWAT-led operation late last week at the recently opened One500 luxury complex on Teaneck Road, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
They were later released pending court action, records show.

Florida Man Wanted On 2 Warrants Busted With Sword In Hudson Traffic Stop: Police
A Florida man wanted on two warrants was busted with a sword during a traffic stop in Hudson County, authorities said.
Alain Diaz, 48, was stopped by Secaucus Police just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said.
Diaz, of Hialeah, Florida, was found to have an outstanding NCIC warrant issued out of Hopatcong with no bail and an outstanding warrant out of Jersey City totaling $50, police said.
Diaz was also charged with a weapons offense for being in possession of a sword, as well as three motor vehicle summonses, Miller said.

Authorities in Newark recovered 491 firearms in the last year.
As of Aug. 8, the city saw a 33 percent increase from the 366 guns recovered during the same period last year, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.

Two Passaic men were convicted of murder, among other charges, for the drive-by shooting death of a 23-year-old city resident after a previous attempt at prosecuting them was derailed by COVID.
Jurors in Paterson found Nelson Vargas, 29, and Christopher Reynoso, 22, guilty of attempted murder, as well, for the wounding of another man in the shooting. Both Vargas and Reynoso were also convicted of conspiracy and weapons offenses.

A tense standoff ended with Englewood police disarming an irate, drunken man who repeatedly refused to drop a machete, authorities said.
ICE agents took custody of Salvadoran national Carlos Sanchez Rivera, 26, almost immediately after he was booked into the Bergen County Jail, records show.
Rivera was drunk when a security guard denied him entry to Vida Garden, a restaurant and lounge on Armor Street, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Police Lt. Fred Pulice said.
