An alert Mahwah police officer nabbed a driver from North Carolina on Route 17 with more than 100 pounds of pot, 30 pounds of cannabis oil and several pounds of “magic” mushrooms, authorities said.
Officer Michael Silano stopped a Chrysler mini-van driven by Kobe P. Rockwell, 24, of Apex, NC, on the southbound highway for various motor vehicle violations, Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said on Tuesday, March 14.
Silano requested a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9, who indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle following Monday’s stop, the chief said.

A rear-view mirror hanging off a new SUV drew the attention of a Mahwah police detective who ended up busting a Rockland dealer and a companion with meth and an assortment of other drugs for sale at a local hotel, authorities said.
Before they were done, police had seized meth, cocaine, methadone, clonazepam, hypodermic needles and packaging materials, Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said.
Detective Christopher Fasulo had gone to the hotel near the New York State border Monday night to check out a report of a stolen vehicle, Jaffe said.

Officers Matt Buonacore and Frank Federico stopped the 2015 Dodge Challenger for several traffic violations on the southbound highway shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said.

A Mahwah police sergeant who stopped a tailgating driver on Route 17 found him carrying an assault rifle, a loaded handgun and several high-capacity magazines, authorities said.
Joseph Cogoni, 51, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina also was driving on a suspended license, Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said.
Sgt. David Vega stopped Cogoni’s 2018 Toyota on the southbound highway around 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday, Jaffe said Monday.
