Saddle Brook Firefighters Limit Damage From Kitchen Blaze Saddle Brook firefighters quickly doused a kitchen blaze on Monday, limiting the damage. The two-alarm fire broke out in the rear of the Congress Street home off Rochelle Parkway near westbound Route 80 shortly before 8 a.m. July 31. Firefighters forced their way in and got water on the flames while searching and ventilating the home. The fire was knocked down and under control in minutes. The Saddle Brook Fire Department urged all citizens to use smoke detectors and to be sure to dial 911 immediately to report any emergencies.

Dog Rescued In Saddle Brook Fire A house fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon in Saddle Brook. A dog was rescued as Saddle Brook firefighters doused a basement blaze on Elm Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. April 26. Two people also were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters had it knocked down in well under a half hour and under control 20 minutes or so after that. The most serious damage was confined to the basement of the 2½-story, wood-frame home. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what police Capt. John A. Zotollo, Jr. said was a minor injury after her Acura TLK crashed into a corner of the Schepis Avenue home shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday. It was shortly after midnight June 26, 1970 that a West Caldwell driver’s car veered off the Garden State Parkway and plunged 30 feet onto Saddle River Road, bursting into flames. Fire Chief William “Don” Wilson was two blocks from the scene of the crash when he lost control of his own vehicle and it struck a tree on a notoriously treacherous curve on Saddle River Road. Car Flips In Saddle Brook, Driver Charged With DWI A 44-year-old Garfield man was charged with DWI after a crash Tuesday night in Saddle Brook, authorities said. The car struck a parked vehicle and then overturned on 5th Street at Capitol Street around 7 p.m., Police Chief Robert Kugler said. The driver sustained minor cuts and abrasions and refused medical treatment, the chief said.  He was released to a responsible adult pending a court hearing, under John's Law.
