Dealers slinging heroin and crack in Paterson had what clearly felt like a safe setup near the train station. Out-of-town buyers could walk a short stretch of Park Avenue -- a one-way street always thick with vehicles -- and cop their drugs before hopping a train back to wherever they came from. US Marine Cadet Struck In Route 1&9 Crash Dies
An 18-year-old US Marine cadet who was struck last April in a hit-and-run crash on Route 1&9 has died. Rayan Bien-Aima was crossing the street at Aviation Plaza north, around 11:15 p.m. Monday, April 25, Linden Police Capt. Christopher Guenther said. He was struck by a dark-colored coupe or sedan was heading north on W. Edgar Road. The vehicle fled the scene and Bien-Aima remained hospitalized ever since. Fire Investigators Examine Fort Lee House Blaze
Firefighters contained a Fort Lee house blaze to a front bedroom after a passing lieutenant saw smoke. Fire Lt. Phil Craddock was driving on the Route 1&9 overpass around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he spotted the smoke coming from the two-story home at 2068 Jones Road just below. Firefighters knocked the blaze down in under a half hour. No injuries were reported. The rest of the house beyond the fire room sustained smoke, water and ventilation damage. Man Dies In Single-Car Crash On Route 1&9 Near Newark Airport
A man died in a crash on Route 1&9 Wednesday evening near Newark International Airport. The single-car crash occurred just before 6 p.m. under the McClellan Street underpass, and the adult male driver was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. The northbound express lanes were closed for investigation. No further information was available.

Two men remained hospitalized following a Route 80 crash that killed an 18-year-old Paterson man Sunday night. Fort Lee PD: Driver, Two Passengers Flee After Sedan Overturns, Slides 100 Feet Near GWB
The driver and two passengers got out and ran after their car overturned and slid 100 yards, a witness told Fort Lee police. The 2003 Chevrolet Impala was headed south on Route 1&9 when it hit the median opposite the Dunkin Donuts, rolled over and slid 300 feet into the right lane just after 12:30 p.m., Capt. Daniel Zusi said. "A witness at the scene stated once the vehicle came to a stop, three black males exited and fled south on the highway," he said.
