A SWAT standoff was underway on a Hudson County street Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, Daily Voice has learned. The Hudson County Regional SWAT Team surrounded a building at 70th Street and Hudson Avenue, where a barricaded suspect has refused to cooperate with officers, Lt. Aleksandar Ramadanovic said. The incident began around 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when the building superintendent reported that a tenant had broken into another apartment, Ramadanovic stated. Driver, 34, Killed, Baby Injured After Rear-Ending Tractor-Trailer On NJ Turnpike: Police
A 34-year-old Nutley man was killed and his 20-month-old baby injured when the sedan they were riding in struck the back of a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County on Sunday night, Sept. 29, police said. Justin Veras was heading north in a Toyota Camry when he struck the back of a disabled Kenworth tractor-trailer in the right lane near milepost 121.4 in Fort Lee around 9:10 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. North Jersey residents are feeling the impact of this week's storm with thousands still without power and schools closed or delayed. Heavy rain on Friday, Sept. 29 closed major roadways across New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency in the late afternoon, as rain continued falling, leaving drivers trapped in flood waters across the state. Dunderhook Road at Paramus Road in Paramus remained closed due to flooding, leading the borough's Office of Emergency Management to urge an evacuation of the area late Friday afternoon.
