: Hasbrouck Heights Police Officer Rescues Woman In Wheelchair From Fire
Flames rolled across the ceiling and smoke filled the home as Hasbrouck Heights Police Officer Christopher Connors dashed upstairs and carried a 65-year-old woman in a wheelchair to safety on Monday. The two-alarm fire broke out in the kitchen and quickly spread to the second floor of the Baldwin Terrace home shortly before 5 p.m. An 84-year-old family member met Connors as he arrived and pointed him to the trapped woman on the second floor, Hasbrouck Heights Police Sgt. A 23-year-old American tourist who fell into Mount Vesuvius in Italy when he dropped his phone taking a selfie was rescued, NBC News reports. Philip Carroll, of Baltimore, MD, had hiked 4,000 feet up a trail that was closed to tourists with two family members on Saturday, July 9, the outlet said citing Paolo Cappelli, President of the Presidio Permanente Vesuvio. Fallen Jet Skiers Rescued From Bayonne's New York Bay
A pair of jet skiers who had fallen off and were being swept away by the current were rescued from the New York Bay on Sunday, July 10. The call came in around 1:45 p.m. in Bayonne, and the couple was found by the Bayonne Cruiseport. Members of Royal Caribbean and Port Authority of NY/NJ tossed life things to the pair, trying to make it toward the shore. A Bayonne Fire Department marine unit put a rescue swimmer in the water, and firefighters were able to remove both victims safely. The female victim was hospitalized while the male was treated at the scene and released.

Near-Drowning Victim Revived By State Police At Sussex County State Park
State Police were quick to save the life of a 50-year-old man who nearly drowned at a state park in Sussex County. Troopers responding to a report of an unconscious man at Swartswood State Park found the victim submerged in water around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, New Jersey State Police said in a release on Monday, June 27. Responders rescued a jumper who was hanging off the side of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The report of a jumper snagged near the northbound Tarrytown end of the bridge came in shortly before 10 a.m., Friday, May 27, bringing a huge contingent of emergency personnel, including the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team. A 60-year-old Clifton man gave new meaning to dumpster diving when he was trapped in a trash bin for what he said was nearly three days before someone heard his cries for help.
