Passaic Shooting Victim, 19, Hospitalized
A 19-year-old shooting victim showed up Thursday night at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, triggering an investigation into what exactly happened, authorities confirmed Friday. The victim told police someone shot her in her car shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the heavily commercial area of Main Avenue near Burgess Place. The victim, who was shot in the arm and chest, arrived in a privately-owned vehicle that apparently had been struck by gunfire, responders said. A Passaic police captain will soon begin a prestigious FBI training class. Capt. Gabriel Guzman is the city’s first police officer in 20 years to be accepted into the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA, Mayor Hector Carlos Lora said. Authorities: Passaic Driver Shoots At Officer, Injures Two Hudson Women In Crash
Authorities filed attempted murder charges against a Passaic man who they said shot at an off-duty police officer from a moving car, then crashed into another vehicle – injuring two Hudson County women – before trying to flee. Joe Vega, 24, also was hit with a host of illegal weapons and ammunition charges, as well as with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury following Monday’s incident. An ex-con from Passaic accused of shooting another city man at a local business early this month was captured in Newark, authorities said. Almalik D. An Uber driver stopped by Bergen County drug detectives on Route 80 in Saddle Brook had more than two pounds of black-tar heroin, four pounds of powdered heroin, several hundred Fentanyl pills and several ounces of cocaine stashed in a hidden compartment of his SUV, authorities said. A 67-year-old Passaic woman who walked out of a hospital overnight Thursday wearing only a light gown and yellow socks was found and returned before lunchtime, authorities said.
