Fourteen suspects have been arrested in 12 Newark committed from Saturday, June 1 through Monday, Sept. 30, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said. On Tuesday, June 4, Ty'Shon Young, a 27-year-old Newark resident was killed in a double shooting on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, authorities said. An investigation by detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force led to the arrest of Timothy Young, 34, for the murder, authorities said.…

Kearny Man Charged In OD Death Of Newark Fire Captain A 42-year-old man has been charged in the overdose death of a beloved 49-year-old Newark fire captain who was found unresponsive at a fire station in January. Eliasel Baez, 42, of Kearny, was charged with strict liability in the death of Newark Fire Captain Carlos Rivera, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said. He was also charged with distributing cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, authorities said. On Jan. 15, Rivera, of Sayreville, was found unresponsive inside the Newark firehouse of Engine 15 Ladder 7 at 269 Park Avenue.

Authorities: Suspect In Custody, 2 Victims In Newark Shooting At Large Two victims of a Newark shooting remained at large while one suspect was taken into custody Tuesday evening, authorities said.  Authorities responded to a report of a shooting on North 9th Street near 6th Avenue West around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Update: Teen Dead, Another Wounded In Newark Stabbing A teenage boy was killed and a younger teen wounded in a Newark stabbing Tuesday morning, authorities said. A 15-year-old died and an 11-year-old hospitalized in the incident, which responders said occurred just before 11 a.m. in a Park Avenue apartment building around the corner from Barringer High School, they said. The younger victim's injuries weren't considered life-threatening, responders said. The Essex County's Prosecutor's Office and Newark police were investigating.
