A 45-year-old driver from New York escaped serious injury when Monday's high winds knocked a tree onto her sedan near the state line in Upper Saddle River. Firefighters from Upper Saddle River and Mahwah freed the alert trapped motorist from the 2023 Toyota Corolla following the 2:10 p.m. March 11 crash on Weiss Road at Maple Road, Police Capt. A tree service crane toppled backwards and was suspended in the air late Monday morning during a residential job n Cresskill. An apparently accidental weekend fire that claimed the life of a Bergen County teenager has staggered many in the community where she was raised, as well as others from area towns and beyond. Riley Boyle, 17, was in the shower when the fire broke out close to the rear entrance of the 2½-story Bonnie Way home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, responders said. A fully involved tractor-trailer fire temporarily closed the southbound New York State Thruway near the Bergen County border Monday night. Snake KO's Power To Mahwah Hotel Complex For Hours
A snake estimated at nearly 10 feet long knocked out power for several hours to the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel near the Rockland County border. Monday's outage at the hotel off Routes 287 and 17 and the NY State Thruway lasted about 4½ hours, Mahwah Fire Chief Michael Roe said. It began around 11 a.m., he said, after the snake got tangled in some switching gear on the property. Worker Falls 30 Feet From Tree In Mahwah
A utility worker clearing foliage from overheard wires fell 30 feet from a tree Wednesday morning at a Mahwah townhouse complex. The 23-year-old Pennsylania subcontractor for Orange and Rockland utilities was working behind Indian Hollow off Hilltop Road when he fell backward around 8:30 a.m., Police Chief James N. UPDATE: Nine teenage boys were injured in an Orange County camp dormitory explosion and fire just after midnight Friday in South Blooming Grove, authorities reported. Hundreds Still Without Power In Saddle Brook
Thousands of Bergen and Passaic residents are still without power following Tuesday's storm that killed one person, downed wires and ignited fires. Orange and Rockland Utilities restored 40,000 customers since Tuesday and the vast majority remaining in the dark will have power by midnight Wednesday, the company said.
