The victim was walking along the 200 block of Ackerman Avenue when he was knocked down and stomped on by an assailant around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, Police Lt. Robert Anderson said. Witnesses told responding officers that the burglar fled toward Paterson after breaking into the Main Street business around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. Jose Sandoval, 29, pulled the knife and tried to stab the guard during a struggle at the Family Dollar store on Getty Avenue Monday afternoon, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. Responding officers grabbed Sandoval after he tried to hop the bus in the area of Main and Crooks avenues, Bracken said.
